Camping hygiene is something I take seriously. Don’t get me wrong – I know getting dirty and stinky on a camping trip is inevitable BUT I am going to do what I can to keep feeling fresh.
One of my favorite products and pieces of gear for camping hygiene is my Kula Cloth pee cloth ($20 at REI)! Made for people who squat when they pee, Kula Cloth reduces the amount of toilet paper going into (and often being left in) nature and eliminates the ‘drip dry’ method.

Kula Cloth Review
A Kula Coth reusable antimicrobial pee cloth is one of my camping hygiene essentials! I’ve been using this piece of gear for over a year now and I recommend it to all of my friends because it is so handy and innovative, and it WORKS!
Overview of Kula Cloth

The Kula Cloth pee cloth is a legitimate piece of outdoor gear that improves feminine hygiene and peeing in the outdoors.
Here are some of my favorite features of the Kula Cloth:
- It can be used in so many different ways! It’s great for camping hygiene but can also be used on any type of outdoor adventure, ranging from hiking to port-a-potties at a music festival.
- You don’t have to bring a whole roll of toilet paper. I pee a lot so the Kula Cloth reduces the amount of toilet paper I go through on a camping trip.
- It’s better for the environment and supports Leave No Trace.
- The waterproof side keeps your hands clean.
- The fabric doesn’t hold odors. No need to worry about your camping buddies or wildlife smelling your pee!
I will never use a bandana or suffer the ‘drip dry’ ever again. I highly recommend it if you want to step up your camping hygiene and care for the planet.
How Kula Cloth Works

Kula is a pee cloth for anyone that squats when they pee.
There are two sides – one has a design and is waterproof so your hands stay dry and the other is an antimicrobial fabric that absorbs moisture and is resistant to odors!
When you are done using your Kula Cloth, you can snap it to your backpack (or a tree) using the handy double snap that gives you privacy and cleanliness when camping or on the trail.
Here’s a super helpful video that shows how to use your Kula Cloth!
Note: The Kula Cloth is only for pee – don’t wipe from front to back like you would do with toilet paper… keep it in the pee-zone!
Cleaning the Kula Cloth
I promise you, Kula Cloth is a game-changer when it comes to camping hygiene. It has never been disgusting and has been odor-free every time I use it!
For a day trip, there’s no need to wash your Kula Cloth between uses – simply rinse it with soap in the sink when you get home and hang it up to dry! If you don’t want to handwash it, throw it in the washing machine. Make sure you secure the snaps before you throw your Kula Cloth in the washing machine so it doesn’t get snagged on anything.
If you are on a longer trip, you can wash your Kula Cloth as needed with a little bit of soap (if you have it) or simply lay it in the sun to ‘sterilize’ it as it dries.
Buying a Kula Cloth for Camping and Hiking
I hope this review has helped convince you to step up your camping hygiene with a Kula Cloth! Like I said, I will never go camping without a Kula Cloth – it helps me feel clean and I’ve never had a problem with odor.
