Permission to get COZY | Adventurous Homebody Club

Hello!

1. I hope November is treating you well so far! Mine has been… okay. I hurt my back (again) on Halloween so I spent the weekend in excruciating pain. But hey, at least I was in pain in a pretty location! 🤪

2. It’s Election Day, and I’m sending all the love to my U.S. friends. I hope you exercised your right to vote and are finding healthy-ish ways to manage any election-related stress.

I voted last week ago and am not keeping up with election-related news. Instead, I’m going on a walk, listening to my Audiobook (Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas), and enjoying a bowl of my favorite soup (more on that below).

In the spirit of keeping things light, here are my “Ins” and “Outs” for the month of November:

3. IN: Dressing for comfort — I literally can not wear an uncomfortable outfit. And now that it’s getting colder (for Arizona standards), I’ve been living in my long, cozy layers! I am so happy to wear my favorite Vuori joggers again!

If I had all the money, I would have all the Vuori, haha. I’m always looking at their stuff on sale – especially since I got Dom hooked on their clothes. They are just SO soft!

4. OUT: Consuming content that hurts my brain — I’m ~four months into my therapist-recommended TikTok break, and it has been nice (especially during election season, haha). I miss the app, but this is my first break since March 2020, so it’s long overdue. I swear my mental health has increased by at least 15%.

And right now, thinking about the election makes me sick to my stomach, so I’m scrolling past and avoiding the news. I just can’t handle it right now. Ya know?

5. IN: Trying new crafts/hobbies — Tis the season for getting crafty! I’m two weeks into my silversmithing class and just learned how to shape and solder silver into tiny stacking rings. So far, I’m loving it!

I’m still working on my DIY cat toys, wanting to update my scrapbook, and thinking about making a couple of lipbalm keychains (like this) as holiday gifts!

6. OUT: Traveling far — Now that the weather is finally nice in Phoenix (with highs of 60/70°F), I’m not going anywhere. Its so nice that we are able to have our screen door and windows open all day long. We are all in heaven! 🫶🏼😭

As soon as my back feels better, I’m looking forward to hiking my favorite trails near Phoenix, plus some new ones!
7. IN: Soup season — I wait all year for November in Arizona so I can eat soup! When I’m not going out for Phở, I’m making soup at home:

8. OUT: Negative self-talk — Historically, I’ve been pretty critical of myself. This year, I’ve gotten really intentional on rewiring my brain with positive self-talk all year. It’s been tough, especially when I’m not feeling good… but it’s possible.

As we head into the holidays and the darker months of the year, I’m doubling down on my practice. Whenever I catch my inner critic (named Kyle, IYKYK) saying something mean, I pause, take an intentional breath, and say something kind to myself.

And even though it feels a little unnatural, I usually say it out loud. Here are some verbal affirmations I’ve said (out loud) to myself in the past week:

“You are SO strong!”
“You are beautiful inside and out.”
“The people in your life love you more than you know.”
“I’m proud of you.”

9. IN: Getting outside every day — Even if it’s just for 20 minutes! Walking around the block or soaking up the morning sun on my back porch does wonders for my soul. Getting outside every day is my favorite self-love ritual.

10. I said I was going to keep it light but number 8 made me cry?! Haha, I hope this list inspired you to slow down, get comfy, and be a little nicer to yourself. 🫶🏼
Sending love! Jacey
