Group Trip Tea | Adventurous Homebody Club

1. I hope you are doing well! I got home from Zion (more on that below!) last Monday, and I’ve been taking it easy at home ever since. And when I say “taking it easy,” I mean I threw out my lower back and spent four days on bed rest. 😭

2. I’ve dealt with lower back pain for years – I throw my back out at least once a year and its debilitating every time. On the bright side, I’ve been focusing on strength training, which sped up my recovery this time around! And, since I had the week off, I took it as an opportunity to finish Jane The Virgin (five stars, highly recommend!!!). A huge shoutout to Dom for taking such good care of me.

If you’re dealing with chronic pain, know that I see you, and I’m sending you all the love. ❤️‍🩹

3. Let’s talk about my first-ever group trip!!! If you don’t know, REI hosts Adventure Travel all over North America. I’ve been partnering with REI for a couple of years now, and after hosting a group hike with them last December, I pitched hosting a women’s trip to Zion National Park

Our group was INCREDIBLE! Eleven adventurous women from all over the West Coast came together for three days and two nights to explore southern Utah. Our expert REI guides, Sheila and Sibley, made us feel welcomed, excited, and prepared from the moment we met! After loading our gear into the van, they took care of everything so we could fully enjoy our trip!
4. On day one, we drove from Vegas to Zion, stopping for a quick lunch before hiking five miles into the Narrows. The canyon was beautiful and I’d love to hike the trail again! After our hike, we took the van 45-minutes outside the park to REI’s Signature Camp.

Camp was tucked away from the heat and crowds of the park, giving us privacy and peace. We had tents on platforms (keeping us away from critters), and there were clean bathrooms with flush toilets and hot (!) showers. Our guides cooked all our meals, did the dishes, and made sure we were well-fed and happy — it was the best camping experience!

5. One of the trip’s highlights was getting permits to hike Angels Landing. Our entire group made it to the top! 💪 The hike was tough, especially in the heat, but the encouragement and support from everyone kept us going! Afterward, we celebrated with ice cream and a nap in the shade. Later, we had a restorative yoga session and a delicious dinner of bruschetta, pasta, and lemon cake. The vibes were immaculate!!

6. We wrapped up the trip with one of my favorite hikes in Zion—Watchman Trail. It was a beautiful hike made even more special by watching bighorn sheep in action (video here)!

Before we left the park, we had a moment of solo reflection, and I spent it sobbing with gratitude. 🥹 I’m so proud of the online community we’ve built, and it made me so happy to adventure with some of you in real life! And I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to host this trip with REI — it is a dream come true!

7. Overall, my group trip was such an incredible experience! Even if I don’t get to host more, I want to go on more group trips! Adventuring with women is just SO SPECIAL.

If you want to see more from our Zion adventure, I’m sharing several videos on my Instagram later this week!

8.
9Looking ahead, Dom and I are headed north for a little weekend getaway that I can’t wait to share it with you! Then, we’re off on our annual couples trip with our good friends, which means more camping and (hopefully, if my back allows) mountain biking!

10. If you’re craving some outdoor adventure, it’s not too late to plan a summer camping trip! If you’re not sure where to go, I highly recommend checking out Hipcamp—I’ve been staying at their sites all over the West since 2017! Other great resources include Recreation.govFreeCampsites.net, and your state’s park system.
