I’ve been camping my whole life, but I started building my own gear collection about 11 years ago. At first, my (now) husband and I relied on basic flashlights, then upgraded to headlamps – which I now consider an absolute camping essential!
More recently, I wanted to add a few extra light sources to our setup. If you know me, you know I’m all about aesthetics AND function – especially when it comes to camping gear. (Any guesses on my astrological sign? 😉)
The right lighting makes camp feel more inviting, helps with late-night tasks, and sets the perfect mood for unwinding under the stars. So, I set out to find lights that are durable, easy to charge, and, of course, look good.
After testing several options, here are my top recommendations for camping lights!

Black Diamond Cosmo 350 Headlamp - $35

A solid headlamp is a non-negotiable for camping! There are tons of options at different price points, but I personally look for one with a red light feature and a budget-friendly price (since I tend to lose them). The Black Diamond Cosmo 350 has been my go-to for years!
I keep the Black Diamond Cosmo 350 Head Lamp in my camping kit!
Luci Solar String Lights - Starting at $54
These are hands down my favorite camping lights!
I use the Luci Solar String Lights 18’ version in our Toyota RAV4 and two-person tent, and the 44’ version for adding cozy ambiance around camp. They’re shatterproof, water-resistant, and solar- or USB-powered. Plus, they pack up easily and are pretty much impossible to tangle.
Luci Outdoor 2.0 Solar Inflatable Lantern - $30

This was actually a birthday gift from my grandma (thanks, Grandma! 🥰), and we’ve used it for over six years now! It’s solar-powered, packs down super small, and is perfect for lighting up the camp table. The battery holds a solid charge, making the Luci Outdoor Solar Inflatable Lantern a staple in our kit.
LuminAID Max Quick Inflate Solar Lantern with Phone Charger - $49

The LuminAID Max Quick Inflate Solar Lantern with Phone Charger is so innovative and fun! It collapses flat, making it super easy to pack and store. It has five light settings and I’m especially fond of the hook-and-loop strap, which allows for easy hanging at camp and attaching to your pack for charging while hiking.
One thing to note: While it has a built-in phone charger, it’s not super reliable for full charges. It’s fine in an emergency, but I recommend packing a portable charger for more reliability.
LuminAID USB String Lights Combo Pack - $25

If you’re looking for budget-friendly camping string lights, the LuminAID USB String Lights are a great option! They come in a two-pack (one white, one with colors), are lightweight (great for backpacking!), and work via USB power.
If you want a light-weight solar-powered option, check out the LuminAID Solar String Area Light with Phone Charger.
