31 Things I Love For My 31st Birthday

31 of my favorite things

To celebrate my 31st birthday, here are some things that spark joy in my little Taurus heart!

1. Moving my body — Physical exercise is the best thing for my mental health, and I’m intentional about moving my body every single day. I keep my daily movement simple – I love neighborhood walks, stretching on my yoga mat and Yoga With Adriene

2. The smell of the desert after it rains — I know this is niche, but if you’ve smelled it, you know it’s the best smell in the world! The smell comes from creosote bushes!

3. Cats — As I write this, I have a sleeping cat curled up in my lap and another cat lying atop my chair. Cats bring me SO MUCH JOY! They are so funny and loving that I can’t imagine life without them.

4. Sterling silver jewelry — All the women in my family have an affinity for sterling silver jewelry, and I’m the same. At any given time, I’m wearing at least five rings, a necklace, and the same tiny silver lizard earring that I bought when I was sixteen. I’m proud of my little jewelry collection (mostly second-hand) and am always looking to add to it.

5. Camping — I grew up camping, which is one of my favorite ways to spend some time off. Even if I’m only gone for a night, I always come home feeling rested, refreshed, creative, and inspired!

6. Content creation — Funnily enough, camping got me into content creation! For as long as I remember, I’ve loved taking pictures. I took film photography classes throughout high school and college, and photography became a skill I could monetize in corporate and freelance careers. It wasn’t until 2020 that I fell in love with video creation and storytelling! Now, content creation is my full-time job and the best job I’ve ever had.

7. Learning — After finishing my master’s degree in 2022, I took learning into my own hands. Whether through reading, learning new content creation skills through YouTube/podcasts, or taking a pottery class in my city, I would describe myself as a lifelong learner.

8. Taking care of my skin — I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, so I am very mindful of being kind to my skin in our hot, dry climate. I wear SPF daily (usually EltaMD) and moisturize my body (with Cerave) after every shower!

9. Huevos Rancheros — If huevos rancheros is on the brunch menu, I’m ordering it.

10. Hiking in the desert — Yes, I love all kinds of hiking, but hiking in the desert is my absolute favorite! There’s something so peaceful and safe about the desert… Maybe it’s because I can see for miles? Or because the sky is always bright and open? Or maybe it’s the comforting presence of centuries-old saguaros.

11. Astrology — This one is new for me! I like to use astrology as a spiritual tool to understand myself and others. My sun signs are Taurus, Aries Moon, and Cancer Rising. I love the book Use Your Planets Wisely by Jennifer Freed and the CHANI App for astrology resources!

12. Reading — I’ve always loved escaping into a good book and have been an avid reader since I was a kid. Since discovering audiobooks, I listen to at least three books a month! I tend to find an author I like and read all their published books. My favorite authors are Kristin Hannah and Liane Moriarty.

13. Taylor Swift’s Music — I bought Taylor Swift’s debut album as soon as it came out, and I’ve been listening to her music ever since! I love deciphering her music to understand her better, while also relating the lyrics back to my own life. Right now, my favorite album is Midnights. I’ve loved listening to The Tourted Poets Department – my favorite songs are But Daddy I Love Him, Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me, Clara Bow, The Black Dog, and I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.

14. Thrifting — I grew up thrifting all my clothes, and I’m so grateful I did because it taught me how to hunt and find the best things! Over the years, I’ve trained my eye to recognize my favorite brands, high-quality fabrics, and southwest-inspired treasures that fill my home and closet.

15. Oat milk lavender lattes — I tried an oat milk lavender latte a couple of years ago and never looked back.

16. Stasher Bags — If you haven’t heard of them, Stasher Bags are food-grade silicone bags that are meant to replace single-use plastic bags. I have over a dozen because I use them every single day! They are great for leftovers, you can cook them in them, and they are great for traveling! If you want to try a Stasher Bag, here’s my referral link (you get 20% off, and I get a reward if you purchase).

18. Vegetables — This is random, but I genuinely love vegetables haha! I’ve mostly stuck to a vegetarian diet over the last ~10 years and have fallen in love with cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, and all the different ways I can eat potatoes. If you want to check out some of my favorite recipes, here’s my Pinterest board

19. Anything lemon-flavored — lemon cake, bars, candy, candles, loaf, lemon, lemon, lemon!!!

20. Vuori Clothing — Have you ever felt a piece from Vuori Clothing?! Their fabric is SO freaking soft!!! I feel so good in everything I own from Vuori. I made the mistake of gifting Dom a pair of their shorts, and now we’re both addicted! 😅 My favorite pieces are the Performance Jogger Pants, Pose Plyo Rib Tank Top, Halo Performance Crop Top, and the Villa Shorts

20. Therapy — I’ve seen a handful of therapists since I was a teenager, and they have saved my life. Through therapy, I’ve improved my unhelpful thinking patterns, healed trauma, and learned more about myself. I only wish it was more accessible… my mental health has been quite the investment, but I’m worth it.

21. Handmade ceramics — There’s something so special about owning something handcrafted from the earth to be a piece of art! My (thrifted and gifted) ceramics collection is my prized possession!

22. Packing for adventures — If you’ve seen my Instagram, you’ve likely seen my packing videos. I’ve always loved packing my clothes for an adventure. I love being organized, daydreaming about my upcoming trip, and folding soft fabrics to fit perfectly in my packing cubes. It’s just so satisfying to my soul!

23. Stardew Valley — Video games are a new hobby of mine, and Stardew Valley has my heart! I love putting on my audiobook and cosplaying as a farmer.

24. Working for myself — This might be my favorite thing in life!!! I’m stubborn and have issues with authority, so working for myself is a dream come true. I love not answering to anyone, making my own schedule, and doing what I think is best for my business.

25. House plants — This is another love I got from the women in my family! Our home is filled with houseplants. My favorites are the easiest to take care of: pothos, snake plants, and ZZ plants.

26. Pilates — I’ve been doing reformer pilates since 2019 and it has to be my all-time favorite exercise. It’s a low-impact way to work all your tiny important muscles, while stretching and defining. I’m OBSESSED. I only wish it was more affordable. My dream home has room for a Pilates reformer. 👀

27. Solo adventures — I went on my first solo trip to Saguaro National Park in 2020, and it changed my relationship with myself for the better! I love doing my own thing, stopping whenever I want, and taking all the time in the world to take pictures. Solo travel is self-care, and I’m so grateful to have a partner who encourages it.

28. Darn Tough Socks — I didn’t get the hype around merino wool socks until I got my first pair of Darn Tough socks from REI Re/Supply. Merino wool has many benefits, but most importantly, it wicks moisture and is antimicrobial! I’ve found Darn Tough socks to be the most comfortable, and I love their lifetime warranty.

29. Phone calls with my friends — Over the last couple of years, I’ve made friends all over the country, and we stay in touch via long phone calls and FaceTime. I can’t help but cry when I think about how grateful I am to have friends who genuinely love and support me. I always leave our phone calls feeling inspired, motivated, grounded, and loved.

30. Crying — Okay, this might be the most random thing I love. It’s taken me thirty years to allow myself to cry freely, and lately, I can’t seem to stop. I think it’s a good thing because it makes me feel good. Crying helps me get emotions OUT of my body, it helps me complete the stress cycle. After all, I am a Cancer rising – I’ve got a lot of emotions and empathy.

31. The Adventurous Homebody Club newsletter — I’ve been writing my weekly newsletter for over six months, and it is my favorite part of the week! I’m so grateful for all my fellow adventurous homebodies. Thank you for being a safe space and for being the best pen pals I’ve ever had!

Final Thoughts On Things I Love

If you’re still here – thank you for allowing me to be completely self-indulgent! There are so many more things I love but most importantly, I love the people in my life. I love the life I’ve built and I love myself. And YOU! I LOVE YOU!

Let me know if any of your favorite things are on my list!
